A New International Academy at the Niels Bohr Institute

The Niels Bohr International Academy is a newly formed entity under the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen. The Academy functions as a primary center for research in theoretical and mathematical physics and related fields, including the model description of physical systems and data. Its goal is to promote and enhance the traditions of internationalism, interdisciplinarity and excellence in physics which have characterized the Niels Bohr Institute since its founding in 1921. To this end, it consolidates the present NBI visitor program with an international program and an active program of workshops and symposia. It also conducts public outreach activities aimed at sharing the excitement and passion of scientific discovery with a non-scientific public. The Academy is an inclusive institution which seeks and solicits the active participation of individual scientists and institutions internationally.

A primary objective of the Academy is research training and education. A number of international PhD-fellowships are available, and the Academy fills annually a number of post-doctoral positions. Scientific staff from the Niels Bohr Institute work for shorter or longer periods at the Academy, and help in organizing workshops and meetings. In addition, the Academy has a staff of two senior post-docs (Asst. Prof.) on 5-year appointments, and hopes to fill more in the future. There is also an active Visiting Professor program.
